Laundry Room Updates

Hello ♥ I’m so excited to share with you all our Laundry Room. Since moving in, I honestly never really thought about doing anything to this room. It’s such a tiny room with no windows, it’s always dark. When we moved in, we painted the walls to a light blue shade to brighten it up (I think they had something like a salmon color in here, which made it really dark). We added our washer and dryer and that was it.

As the years go on, behind the door became kind of a storage. It was all rando things, mostly Tom’s tools and such. It’s always messy. Eventually I just got sick of it, because to tell you the truth, I enjoy doing laundry. So whenever I go in this room, instead of feeling some relief (not sure if that’s the word I’m looking for), I just feel frustrated.

With the new year being here, I told Tom it’s time to do some updates in here and make it more functional and not so cramped. First up, getting rid of some of the clutter. I don’t have photos or anything but you can see in the next before & after photo a little bit of what it was like in this room. Next is removing the drawer pedestals of the washer and dryer.

By removing the drawer pedestals, it lowered the washer and dryer significantly. I feel like that alone really opened up the space. It gave it that “white blank” area. Ahhhhh I feel like I can breathe just by looking at this before and after. Once we did that, we added a counter top over the washer and dryer. The countertop that we got was from Menards. I believe it’s a laminate so it’s nothing fancy, but we love the marble pattern on it and this slab was actually on clearance for $50.00! Such a steal and we still have a bit left over from the slab!

One the other side of the room is this wall. It was pretty blank and I had thought about getting rid of that peg rail (is that what it’s called? haha), but I decided to leave it because it can be handy for when we have guests over during the holidays and such. Anyways, I had originally thought of doing wallpaper shiplap on this wall, which will be a lot of work because we have textured walls. Once we got to Menards though, we found this. It’s called Aspen White Homesteader Hardboard Wall Panel, when Tom and I saw it, we instantly loved it. Plus no need to resurface the wall, just slap this on! We purchased two of these wall panels and it worked out perfectly. And since you can see the piping and such behind the washer and dryer, my husband made a false wall using the shiplap wall panels and ta-da!

We also ended up changing the light fixture in here to something a bit more “farmhouse/modern.” The new light fixture is from Amazon and was only $16.00! Such a steal. I did buy the vintage light bulbs that matches it, but I don’t recommend it because it’s way too dark, so we had to return it and had to order something that’s brighter (I can’t wait for that to come in haha. It’ll look much better than a normal LED bulb that we have in it right now.)

I believe this is the last thing that we did, painting the door. It was just dirty, had a lot of scratches/scrapes and we’re not a fan of this light brown color (which seems to be a favorite by the past owner). We love the bright white door. It definitely helped brighten up this room ♥ I’m still debating if I should paint the peg rail (and maybe also the bench) white. Let me know your thoughts in the comments if I should.
